Total startup costs range from $209,900 to $393,930. To financially qualify, you’ll need a net worth of $350,000 and liquid assets of at least $100,000. Liquid assets can include any combination of cash, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, retirement accounts or any other non-borrowed source. A co-applicant may help in meeting this requirement.

How much can I make?

How long does it take to open?

The franchise agreement specifies that your store will open 9 months from your franchise agreement date. That said, the typical timeline is more like 7-8 months. The main variable is real estate availability in your chosen territory.

Do I need any specialized industry knowledge opening a franchise with Batteries Plus?

No, you don’t need any prior experience. We prepare you to open your store by providing the knowledge you’ll need to provide solutions for your customers. Upon signing your agreement, you’ll receive access to empowerYOU, our online university, which is designed to teach you and your sales associates technical aspects, like battery and light bulb terminology, chemistries, applications, features, benefits and more. You’ll also learn about store culture and leadership, sales and customer service, store operations, and finance and business planning. When you’re finished, you’ll be ready to attend a two-week classroom training session, where we’ll cover products, store systems, processes, selling skills, human resources, marketing, finance, your in-store repair center and more. This blended approach keeps learning fresh, engaging and impactful. We’ll also provide you with a separate, hands-on, 3-day training session for tablet, smartphone and mp3 player repairs, for at least two associates per store.

How do you compete with online retailers like Amazon?

While Amazon is a formidable competitor for most retailers, there are significant barriers that make it hard for an online-only retailer to compete with Batteries Plus. It’s hard for most online marketplaces to:

  1. Ship products to customers quickly
  2. Help customers identify what they need to purchase to solve their problem
  3. Guide customers to additional solutions
  4. Guarantee the quality of the products they sell

Does the eCommerce website compete with my store?

Not at all. Batteriesplus.com opens in new window actually drives sales for your store. When guests visit the site, we detect their location and they become your customer. Any purchases flow to you. At the same time, we encourage in-store pickup. This gives you the opportunity to build a relationship with those customers who have discovered Batteries Plus online. Once they see all the products and services you offer, they are much more likely to become a repeat customer.

Do you offer financing?

We do not offer internal financing, but third-party financing is available. We have well-established relationships with lenders that provide franchise financing to new business owners, and since they’re already familiar with our business model, the process can be a lot smoother. How much are royalties?

The royalty is 5% of sales and is collected monthly.

Which territories are available?

We look for territories with a population of at least 75,000, and enough business density to  support business account sales. You can find more details here.

What are the market attributes Batteries Plus uses to choose locations?

While Batteries Plus stores thrive today in a wide variety of markets, there are a few key attributes we look for, including residential population and local business density. As a consumer-oriented retail store, we prefer to be located in markets with destination-driven retail shopping areas typically populated with ‘big box’ stores. Freestanding buildings, strip centers or dual-usage buildings of at least 1500-1800 square feet located in these high-traffic areas are ideal locations for our storefronts.
